Topaz is mostly composed of fluorine, aluminum & a silicate material. It resembles a diamond in hardness. However, it it easier to break a topaz than a diamond.

Topaz comes in a range of colors from clear to yellow, pale green, pink, brown, and blue. Pure topaz is actually colorless and then colors are created by impurities in the stone. Yet, the most valuable and notable topaz are a deep orange shade called Imperial Topaz.

Citrine is much harder than topaz, but to the naked eye, they look very similar. Citrine is a strain of quartz, so it exhibits several colors, ranging from yellow to brown. Natural citrine are created when amethyst and smoked quartz are heat treated, making them quite rare.
